Castanheira de Pera Municipality

Inaugurated in 2001, the “Museu Casa do Tempo” (House of Time Museum) in Castanheira de Pera is a cultural space that contributes to the preservation of local history. The building is designed to depict the dynamics of time in the present, past and future. In its rooms, the importance of the wool industry in the region is presented, as well as equipment related to the printing industry. This museum also hosts several temporary exhibitions dedicated to different artistic languages and handicrafts by both national and international artists. The Museu Casa do Tempo is, therefore, an important cultural reference that contributes to Castanheira de Pera’s tourism.

Wool industry in Castanheira de Pera

The Museu Casa do Tempo (House of Time Museum) presented the importance of the old woollen industry in the development of the municipality of Castanheira de Pera. Through photographs of the factories and objects related to the textile industry, the collection tells the stories of the people who wove the local heritage of this region, which was the largest woollen producer in Portugal.

Museum-Village Route map

The Museum in the Village Project has transcended geographical boundaries by bringing together museums and villages from 26 different municipalities in Portugal. The map highlights the three participating regions and reveals the route between the museum and the village, where Cultural Heritage acts as a bridge to bring together municipalities, celebrate traditions and enhance territorial cohesion.
