The Museum goes to the Village
How can we build meaningful relationships between museums and villages? What are the doors that open in a community when museums open their doors to them?
Raising awareness of the issue of access and inclusion through art and culture in more remote and isolated territories led 13 museums to temporarily donate objects from their collections to the villages participating in the project.
The selection of the works considered the historical, artistic and identity context of the museums themselves and the villages, stimulating interaction and dialogue with the communities, not only from the heritage and cultural similarities, but also through their differences and singularities. This work brought together museum professionals, communities, teams, partners and municipalities, enhancing the role of museums as institutions at the service of the public in the face of social change.
The museum objects in this exhibition reveal the cultural richness of a territory and the joint commitment of museum teams and professionals in fostering access and community engagement with cultural heritage and museological institutions.
